Spechtritz is a district of the small town of Rabenau in the Saxon district of Saxon Switzerland-Eastern Ore Mountains .

geography

Spechtritz is a forest hoof village that extends in a north-easterly direction from a plateau down to the Rote Weißeritz . The place is about 330 m above sea level and is located on the lowest edge of the Eastern Ore Mountains . Around 300 people live in Spechtritz (2004).

history

The Waldhufendorf, which was laid out around 1300, was first mentioned in a document in 1450 under the name Speckhart (etymology: Specht + Hardt ). In 1516 the Slavic-sounding name Spechtritz was mentioned. At that time, the manor was at the Berreuth manor , after which it was the official village of the Dippoldiswalda office . Spechtritz was pastor to Seifersdorf until 1930 , then to Rabenau.

From 1875, Spechtritz belonged to the Dippoldiswalde district administration and from 1952 to the Freital district . 1973 Spechtritz was incorporated into the town of Rabenau. According to the Saxon municipal code, there is a local council with a local mayor for local issues .

Economy and Transport

Spechtritz was dominated by agriculture for centuries. Spechtritz is known for his woodworking handicraft (chair making, folk art). Until the flood in 2002, the remains of the Spechtritz mill and the cork factory in the so-called rock mill were located along the Rote Weißeritz . These buildings were demolished in 2006 and 2008 and the areas were renatured.

Spechtritz has a stop at the Weißeritztalbahn . Local roads lead to Rabenau and Borlas .

Culture and sights

Every year on the first Advent in Spechtritz, a large open-air Christmas pyramid is ceremoniously put into operation at the lower entrance to the village.
