Spectral (also called EPR02 [= E in p latinen r echner]) was a replica of the Sinclair ZX Spectrum , which was developed in the GDR .

Prehistory and Development

The computer was developed from 1987 by the engineering company for applications microelectronics (IFAM) Erfurt, produced by VEB Mikroelektronik "Karl Marx" , and was available in stores from December 1st, 1988. The Spectral could only be purchased from the industrial store of VEB Robotron-Vertrieb Erfurt , which now operates under the name of Hübner-Elektronik .

hardware

In contrast to other replicas such as the GDC1 or HCX, the computer was fully compatible with the ZX Spectrum, but the KuB 64K was also fully compatible . Software for the ZX Spectrum can run on it. In addition, the main memory could be expanded to a maximum of 256 kB. It had an RGB output. There was also a connection for a joystick . Except for the circuit board, the owner had to get and assemble all the parts himself.

Except for the name and the same processor, the previous model EPR01 had no similarities or even compatibility.

The key layout was based on that of the model, but plastic keys were used instead of a rubber keyboard (as in the original).
