The company's products are sold under the following brands:

  • electric razors and hair clippers under the Remington brand .
  • Russell Hobbs branded Small Domestic Appliances (SDA).
  • Herbicides , insecticides and fertilizers under the three brands Spectracide, Schultz and Garden Safe.
  • Insect repellent ( repellant ) under the two brands Cutter and Repel & Hot Shot.
  • Fish food and aquarium accessories under the three brands Tetra , Marineland and Jungle.
  • Pet supplies under the three brands Dingo, 8 in 1 and Nature's Miracles.

Company history

In 1906 the French Battery Company was founded in Madison, Wisconsin . In the 1930s the company was renamed Rayovac . In 1989 Vidor was acquired by Crompton Parkinson . In 1996, the private equity company Thomas H. Lee Rayovac took over and went public in 1997. In 2002 Rayovac acquired the private customer business of the batteries division from VARTA , and in 2003 the Remington Products Company. In 2005 Rayovac bought United Industries Corporation and took over the name Spectrum Brands. In the same year, Tetra GmbH was also taken over and integrated into the United PetGroup division.

On February 3, 2009, Spectrum Brands officially announced that it had filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in the United States. On 28 August 2009, the bankruptcy was completed and Spectrum Brands left the bankruptcy protection under Chapter. 11

In 2018, Spectrum Brands sold its battery division with its own historical brand Rayovac including the rights to the Varta brand for consumer batteries to Energizer Holdings . The sale was fully completed on January 2, 2019.
