Remington is a brand for men's razors , hair clippers, women's razors / epilators and various hair styling products. The brand has belonged to the US company Spectrum Brands since October 2003 . The Remington products are sold in Germany by VARTA Consumer Batteries GmbH & Co. KGaA, based in Ellwangen (Jagst) , a subsidiary of Spectrum Brands.

history

In 1936 Remington was founded as a division of the Remington Rand Company . In 1937 Remington launched the first dry electric shaver. In the following years the company worked on the development of razors with multiple shaving heads. In 1940 it presented the first razor with two shaving heads and in 1941 the first razor with three shaving heads and long hair trimmer. In 1960 Remington launched the first cordless razor. Equipped with nickel-cadmium batteries , you could shave with it for several days without a mains connection.

In 1979 the company was bought by Victor Kiam and continued as Remington Products Inc. In 1993 Remington bought the personal care division of Clairol Inc. In 1996, the company was reorganized and renamed Remington Products Company LLC, still based in Bridgeport, Connecticut . In 2003, Remington was acquired by US battery manufacturer Rayovac , which changed its name to Spectrum Brands in 2005 and filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings on February 3, 2009 .
