Spen Whittaker
Spence "Spen" Whittaker (* 3rd quarter 1871 in Accrington , Hyndburn County , † April 1910 in Crewe ) was an English football coach who was the coach of Burnley FC until his death . In 1903 Whittaker took up the coaching position. While on the train to London in April 1910 to sign a player, he fell out of a railroad car near the town of Crewe. It was only when we stopped in town that it became known that a man had fallen out of the wagon. Eventually it became known that this was Whittaker. Burnley hosted a benefit game against Manchester United on Turf Moor after his death, the proceeds of which were passed on to Whittaker's family.
