Specific target organ toxicity

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The specific target organ toxicity ( Engl. Specific Target Organ Toxicity, STOT ) refers to a hazard class of chemicals for which the Regulation (EC) no. 1272/2008 (of 16 December 2008 Regulation CLP ) prescribes a certain labeling and packaging.

A distinction is made between the specific target organ toxicity after single exposure (STOT SE) and after repeated exposure (STOT RE). The classification criteria result from 3.8 and 3.9 of Annex I of the CLP regulation (regulations for the classification and labeling of dangerous substances and mixtures).

The specific target organ toxicity after single exposure describes the specific non-lethal target organ toxicity after a single exposure, the target organ toxicity after repeated exposure the specific target organ toxicity after repeated exposure to a substance or a mixture. This includes all clear health effects that can affect bodily functions, regardless of whether they are reversible or irreversible, immediate and / or delayed. In addition to animal studies , empirical values in humans, such as the development of occupational diseases, are used as a basis for assessment .

STOT SE has categories SE1, SE2 and SE3, STOT RE only RE1 and RE2.

Specific target organ toxicity can occur through all relevant routes of exposure , with oral, dermal and inhalation being the most important. The following organ systems in particular can be affected:
