Sphere of Souls is a Dutch progressive metal band from the province of North Holland , which was founded in 2004.

history

The band was founded in May 2004 after singer and guitarist André Vuurboom left his previous band Sun Caged . A short time later, bassist Kees Harrison, drummer Patrick Gerritzen and keyboardist Joost van den Broek, who previously worked for Sun Caged, joined the band. Van den Broek should also work as a producer for the debut album. A short time later guitarist Anand Mahangoe joined the band, who was supposed to contribute a few solos to the album. He would later become a permanent member of the band. After that, Vuurboom began writing material for the album. In January 2005 Rob Cerrone joined the band as a guitarist. Recording began in February 2005, but without Anand Mahangoe and Joost van den Broek. Meanwhile, Patrick Gerritzen left the band and was replaced by drummer Ruud van Diepen towards the end of March 2005.

The band recorded their debut album From the Ashes… from May to September 2005 at Excess Studios in Rotterdam . In October, Anand Mahangoe became a permanent member of the band. In November 2005, the band signed a contract with the Finnish label Lion Music and released their album on April 21, 2006. On October 1, 2006 the band played on ProgPower Europe . At the beginning of 2007 Anand Mahangoe and Ruud van Diepen left the band. In July Alex Rosenhof joined the line-up as the new guitarist and in October Milan Ridderhof as the new drummer.

style

The band plays classic progressive metal and can be compared to other groups in the genre such as Dream Theater , Vanden Plas and Psychotic Waltz .
