history

The Erfurt casino was opened on December 15, 2005 after the state of Thuringia had already taken over the monthly rent of 33,000 euros three years earlier as part of a letter of comfort to the hotel operator. An investigative committee of the Thuringian state parliament dealt with this controversial use of tax money .

In September 2007 the range of games was expanded to include the "classic game". In 2009 almost 25,000 guests visited the casino. The gross gaming revenue was around two million euros. Most of this income was paid to the public purse as a casino fee. It went to the city of Erfurt , the state of Thuringia and the Thuringia volunteer foundation for charitable purposes. Until 2011 it was 1.3 million euros a year and was then reduced because of the deficit.

The license for the Erfurt casino, which had twenty employees, ended in 2014. At the end of 2014, the Erfurt casino was closed.
