Game technology

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Under Games technology is meant technical services, the function and the end of a TV show , especially a game show help. These include input devices, control monitors, database of questions, evaluation, OnAir graphics and operating during the broadcast. Games technology does not fall under the classic departments such as sound , light or image technology .

Games technology tasks

Querying the answer buttons and the reaction buttons (often called buzzer ) was one of the most important tasks of gaming technology in the early days of entertainment programs. Furthermore, in many broadcasts, luminous areas on the candidate desks have to be controlled in different colors, depending on whether the answer was correct or incorrect. All actions of the candidates are documented. Another task of game technology is to show the TV viewer questions, answers or the current score at the right time.

Development history

In the late 1980s, private television networks began broadcasting daily entertainment formats that mostly offered candidates money. The implementation of these games made the use of game technology necessary. The beginning of this game show era, in which, depending on the TV production, up to 7 programs were recorded per day, requires perfectly functioning technology behind the scenes. Even minimal delays - regardless of the trade - can jeopardize daily production goals. In order to achieve the production goals, detailed content preparation, logistically sophisticated audience procurement and timely candidate casting are also required.

Areas of responsibility for playing technique

In modern game shows, the candidate's options for action go beyond simply pressing a “buzzer”. For example, if several candidates have to choose from several answers within a time window, touch screens are usually used in each candidate desk. These are integrated into the desks of the candidates in such a way that they are invisible to the front-facing cameras. The candidates read the question verbally formulated by the moderator for the audience again and are shown the possible answers. Now you can select the correct answer by touching it on the screen.

Touchscreens open up many possibilities, as the screen can be programmed depending on the requirements and game content: typing in answers, from numerical results (such as estimated values) to graphical tasks such as in the TV show Schlag den Raab : There have to be on the Touchscreen by means of a touch pen in an empty map, which only shows the outline of a country or continent, if requested by the moderator, locations can be drawn with the aim of getting as close as possible to the actual location of the location.
