history
On March 5, 1975, a foundation was established by various committed people to serve as the sponsor of a toy museum. On July 1, 1978, space in the Mariatorget 1C building was taken over. The total of 1,200 m² managed was spread over five levels. After renovation work, the museum opened on August 30, 1980. The toy collector became the first director of the museum, and Stig Dingertz , who was also chairman of the foundation, played a key role in its establishment . In 1990/91 there were significant financing problems, so that the museum had to close for three months. The museum was reorganized and reopened in 1991 with private support. The museum had 60,000 visitors annually, which included 15,000 visitors for a children's theater.
In 2005 the museum moved to its current location.
