Spinariscope

A spin acariscope from an "Atomic energy" kit from the 1950s.

A spin disk is a device for making ionizing radiation visible using the scintillation method . It was developed by William Crookes in 1903 . Today, a scintillation counter is used instead of a spin lens .

The functioning of the spin hariscope is based on the fluorescent effect of the α-radiation on zinc sulfide . With conventional devices, up to 150 light flashes (= radioactive decays) per second can be seen in complete darkness and a correspondingly long waiting time until the eyes are adapted to dark.
