The Krusader is a file manager with many extras for KDE . It works with a two-column view based on the model of the Midnight Commander (similar to the Windows program Total Commander ). Krusader supports Linux , Solaris and other Unix systems. The program is distributed under the GNU General Public License and has so far been downloaded over 811,000 times from the official server, and it is part of the package scope of practically every well-known Linux distribution.

Range of functions

Krusader offers all common file manager functions and shows folder contents as a file list in two columns. Each column page supports several tabs and can display files as a detailed or multi-column brief view. All KIO protocols ( FTP , SMB , NFS etc.) are supported. In addition, archives with various formats (such as tar , ZIP , bzip2 , gzip , RAR , ACE , ARJ , LHA , RPM ) can be opened and changed transparently. A file preview for images, documents, text files etc. can be displayed in the main window. Krusader also includes a built-in viewer and editor . File operations (copy, move) can be controlled by canceling, pausing, continuing and undoing.

It also supports advanced operations for advanced users:

  • Quick search: a single tap selects, filters or selects files in the current file list.
  • Synchronize from directories (eg., Via FTP).
  • Creation and verification of file checksums .
  • Split and merge large files into multiple parts.
  • Automatic multiple renaming of files using KRename .
  • Comparison of file contents by calling Kompare .
  • Recursive calculation and display of storage space consumption for individual subfolders.
  • File search by name (with regular expressions ), size, date, user rights or content.
  • Display of a built-in terminal emulator .

The functionality of the file manager can also be expanded by defining user actions.

history

The Krusader project was founded in May 2000 by Shie Erlich and Rafi Yanai to create a kind of Total Commander for Linux . Shie and Rafi decided to write the program using the Qt toolkit under KDevelop . Krusader-M1 (Milestone 1) was the first preview version for KDE2 (Cleopatra 1.91). In mid-2005 the Krusader development team ("Krusader Krew") had around ten members. With the release of version 2.5 in October 2016, Krusader was ported to Qt 5 and KDE Frameworks 5 .
