Whimsy polka

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Spleen-Polka is a polka - mazur by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 197). The work was performed on November 1, 1857 in Vienna's Volksgarten . Whether there was a previous performance in Pavlosk in Russia is possible but not clearly verifiable.

Remarks

The polka was composed during Johann Strauss' second trip to Russia in the summer of 1857. However, the fair copy and printing did not take place until after the composer's return to Vienna. Therefore, a performance in Russia is unlikely, even if theoretically conceivable. The work is a typical Russian piece of clay. The title suggests that Strauss probably someone from the Russian company, or which are but not specifically named, for lifted in the English word meaning nutty held. In 1886 the composer quoted again musically from the Spleen-Polka in his Polka An der Wolga (op. 425) .

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 5 minutes and 37 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
