Remarks

In the spring of 1886 Johann Strauss stayed in St. Petersburg at the invitation of the ladies of the Society of the Red Cross. There he was supposed to give several concerts with a Russian orchestra. On this occasion he also composed this polka, which was initially named Mon salut . The work, whose resemblance to the whimsy polka from 1857 was not noticed by anyone, was very well received. Indeed, the composer used musical quotations from the earlier work. The work was first performed in Vienna under its current name on November 7, 1886 in the concert hall of the Wiener Musikverein .

The playing time on the CD listed under itemization is 5 minutes and 13 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
