Agricultural aircraft
An agricultural aircraft is an aircraft that is specially equipped and approved for use in agriculture . The world's first agricultural aircraft were built by the US Huff-Daland Aero Company in 1924 .
purpose
The purpose of such an aircraft is, in particular, the application of liquid or solid substances for pest control or fertilization on large, sometimes inaccessible areas. For this purpose, it has a large chemical container and application systems for applying the respective substances. At least the smaller agricultural aircraft are single-seated. The second seat is usually replaced by a tank in favor of a larger load capacity.
The air resistance is secondary because of the low speed, but great value is placed on safe flight behavior at low speed and easy operation. Special agricultural aircraft are mostly robust, often single-engine aircraft with a rigid landing gear and without a pressurized cabin , equipped with a particularly powerful engine. Many agricultural pilots are STOL capable. Due to these design features, many agricultural aircraft are also suitable for use as fire-fighting aircraft , since their tanks can in most cases also be filled with fire-fighting water.
It is also possible to use multi-purpose aircraft such as B. to temporarily equip the Antonov An-2 with appropriate equipment and then use it as an agricultural aircraft. Helicopters are also used in agricultural flight .
