The turbocharged Continental TSIO-520-T engine developed 230 kW (310 hp) and was equipped with a three-blade McCauley variable-pitch propeller .
In 1983 production of the entire 188 series was stopped. Due to its robustness, the 188 is still flown in numerous countries today.
