The Citation I is a twin-engine business jet aircraft manufactured by the American manufacturer Cessna . It was built more than 690 times between 1971 and 1985 and forms the cornerstone of the Cessna Citation family . A distinction is made between the Citation (1971 to 1976), the Citation I (1976 to 1985) and the Citation I / SP (1977 to 1985). An extended version was offered under the name Cessna Citation II .

history

A prototype of the Citation flew for the first time on September 15, 1969 , at that time still under the name FanJet 500 . Cessna had set itself the goal of building a jet that had both low operating and construction costs and was safe and easy to use. Another aspect was the competition with existing fan guns, such as the Beechcraft King Air , which could fly to smaller airports due to its short take-off distance, but offered a lower cruising speed. After Cessna revised the position of the engines and lengthened the fuselage, the Cessna Citation 500 model received a type certificate on September 9, 1971 and was first delivered in 1972. The name Citation comes from a famous race horse .

The Cessna Citation I followed in 1976. This variant differed from the Citation 500 by an increased take-off weight, extended wings, revised engines and thrust reverser .

The Cessna Citation I / SP (model 501) followed in 1977 . It received a Single Pilot Certification , which means that it can be flown by one pilot alone, which brings Cessna closer to the existing turboprop aircraft , as most of these aircraft were only allowed to be flown by one pilot.

In 1985 the production of the Citation I was stopped. The successor was introduced in 1989 under the name Cessna CitationJet .
