The Cessna NGP was a concept aircraft for a planned future family of single-engine light aircraft with fixed landing gear and new control of flight performance and fly-by-wire aircraft control, which was to be used in flight training and for commercial use. The abbreviation NGP stood for Next Generation Piston .

The only flying prototype was built by Cessna for test purposes and was shown publicly in flight for the first time on July 24, 2006 at the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh . The machine with the approval N99110 was also presented in April 2007 at the air show, Flying For Fun in Lakeland , Florida .

description

The prototype was presented with a Lycoming IO-580 FADEC engine with 320 PS (240 kW). The power setting for both the engine and the controllable pitch propeller was carried out with just one lever (NGP); this fully digital engine control system is known as FADEC . All the information required for an aircraft was also displayed on color screens and thus replaced the usual and many individual pointer instruments. The actual aircraft control takes place via a fly-by-wire system with sidesticks . A high percentage of fiber composite materials were used in the construction of the wings and the fuselage.

The presented design model also had four doors and a separate luggage compartment door on the left side as well as a newly developed three-legged landing gear with a flutter-free nose wheel. The new wings indicated a relatively small negative wing sweep angle and are not braced. The model was used as a test vehicle and demonstration model for new and further developments at Cessna.

Whereabouts

Since August 2011, the prototype with the registration number N99110 is no longer registered with the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration). The whereabouts of the concept aircraft is not known. Cessna has also removed the information about the NGP prototype from its homepage.
