Continental O-520 is the name of a piston engine family from the US manufacturer Teledyne Continental Motors .
All engines in this series are air-cooled 4-stroke boxer engines (O for opposite , opposite), have six cylinders with a bore of 133.35 mm and a stroke of 101.6 mm. The displacement is, as the number indicates, 520 cubic inches , corresponding to 8514 cm³. The engine was first introduced in 1963 and is the six-cylinder version of the O-346 . Different versions have additional features that can be recognized by letters in front of the designation, such as: B. I ( injection ) for fuel injection , G ( geared ) for reduction gears, S ( supercharger ) for a supercharger driven by the engine, T ( turbo supercharger ) for turbocharging and V for the possibility of vertical installation in helicopters. The engine was the basis of the subsequent O-550 engine.
The engine is used in the Beech 35 Bonanza, Bellanca 17 -30 Viking, Piper Malibu , Cessna 185 , Cessna 210 E Centurion, Cessna 206 Super Skywagon, Cessna 340 and Cessna 402 .
