The Continental R-670 (internal designation W670 ) is a seven-cylinder star engine for aircraft that was built by the American manufacturer Continental . It has a displacement of eleven liters and a dry weight of 465 lb (211 kg ). The output varies from 210 hp (154 kW ) to 240 hp (177 kW) at a speed of 2200 min −1 . The engine was the successor to Continental's first radial engine, the Continental A-70 . It was used in many aircraft in the 1930s and 1940s, for example, the PT-17 Stearman of the US military .
In addition to being used in aircraft, the R-670 was also used in some armored vehicles.
