The Continental CD-230 is a four-cylinder boxer diesel engine that is built by the American company Continental Motors . The engine received its type certification by the Federal Aviation Administration on December 19, 2012 under the official designation TD-300-B. Later the TD-300-C was added with a higher service ceiling.

construction and development

In 2008, Teledyne Continental's new managing director, Rhett Ross, announced that the company was very concerned about future AvGas 100LL supplies and was planning to develop a 300 hp (221  kW ) diesel engine as a result  . Type certification is planned for 2009 or 2010.

Instead of developing the engine from scratch, Continental decided to license an existing design. The company did not disclose details of the licensing, but aviation magazines have identified the original engine as the French SMA SR305-230 .
