SMA SR305 is the name of an aircraft engine from the French manufacturer Société de Motorisations Aéronautiques . It is a 4-cylinder, 4-stroke diesel engine in a boxer configuration with turbocharging and charge air cooling . The engine is air / oil cooled. The cubic capacity is 4998 cm². The adjustable propeller is driven directly without a reduction gear. The engine control is carried out by a FADEC .

The engine's maiden flight took place in March 1998 in a Socata TB 20 . The SMA 305 was presented to the public for the first time in June 1999 at the Paris Air Show.

The engine has been type-approved by the DGAC since July 2001 , the FAA approval took place in July 2002. The engine is operated with Jet A1 and has a continuous output of 169 kW at 2200 rpm. A Cessna 182 was equipped with the engine. The engine is also type certified for use in this aircraft and a conversion kit is available. The mean time between overhaul is 2000 hours.

Between July 17 and 25, 2006, a Cessna 182 (registration number: F-GJET ) equipped with the SMA SR305-230 attracted international attention when the aircraft was flown in nine stages from Le Bourget to Oshkosh .

Despite the advertising and marketing efforts, only about 30 units had been sold worldwide by June 2005. It is also planned to use this engine to drive the MK-3 from MK Helicopter.
