The Verden-Hoya district was a historical administrative district of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hanover .

history

As a result of the abolition of the four previous general dioceses and the appointment of "provincial provosts" by the German Christians (1934), regional bishop August Marahrens appointed seven episcopal vicars who were commissioned to support the pastors' community, to attend parish conventions and to visit parishes . When the power struggle between the German Christians and the regional bishop was decided in favor of the latter, the office of regional superintendent was created in place of the episcopal vicars on June 15, 1936, who took over the spiritual supervision within a district.

The district boundaries were based on the boundaries of the historical landscapes of the Kingdom of Hanover. The Sprengel Verden-Hoya initially included the church districts of the former Duchy of Verden (Rotenburg and Verden ) and the Upper and Lower Counties of Hoya (Hoya, Nienburg, Stolzenau, Sulingen, Syke). He got his seat in Oiste . After the state superintendent Ernst Lienhop left office (1953), the Rotenburg and Verden church districts were assigned to the Stade district, the Sulingen district to the Osnabrück district and the Hoya, Nienburg, Stolzenau and Syke districts to the Calenberg district.

In May 1957, the final abolition of the district and the distribution of the church districts to the neighboring districts according to the previous provision with the exception of Sulingen, which also fell to Calenberg. The enlarged district of Calenberg was named Calenberg-Hoya .
