The collegiate court oak

description

The hollow trunk with metal plates

The collegiate court oak is located in the center of Bassum, near the collegiate church and the Protestant women's monastery . The oak has a height of 23 meters, a trunk circumference of 5.05 and a crown circumference of 18 meters. Their age is given in tourist documents as 1,000 or even "1,200 years", but experts give it as 450 to 500 years. At man's height, the trunk is divided into three steeply set strong branches, creating a candelabra-like habit. The trunk is hollow and open - now protected by a metal plate.

The oak stands on a raised round square and is surrounded in a circle by younger oaks.

The street “Zur Stiftseiche” leads past the Stiftsgerichtseiche as a path to the outdoor pool.

history

Under the oak, the noble canons met for a coffee party when the weather was nice - hence the name "coffee oak".
