It is aimed at those public who are interested in the social and political implications of cultural phenomena. The first issues were published by an editorial team around Georg Schöllhammer (from 1998 together with Christian Höller and Hedwig Saxenhuber ).

Content orientation

The art scenes in Southeastern Europe form a focus of the booklet . Current developments in the post-communist countries are documented and critically examined with local authors, theorists, critics and artists.

Another thematic constant is the power supply , in which network specialists and activists question the applications and potential of new technologies.

Selected international exhibitions, events and publications are discussed in Artscribe .

At the center of each issue is a topic that discusses positions, motifs and debates around virulent art theory, sociopolitical and popular cultural issues with contributions from international experts. In 2007, the booklets were related to Georg Schöllhammer's documenta 12 magazines project, which led an international exchange on the central questions of documenta 12: »Is modernity our antiquity? What is bare life and: What to do? ”were also the questions the international authors dealt with in issues 1/07 to 4/07: the theorist Eyal Weizmann presents his current research project on Israeli security and territorial policy and Toni Maraini outlines the groundbreaking debates and activities of the Moroccan magazine Souffles, which was one of the leading organs of the Maghreb intelligentsia in the late 1960s .

In issue 1/08, under the title »Remapping Critique«, the question was asked about the specific gap that opens up between criticism and criticism and the (positive) counter-images that are often promised, and in April 2008 the next issue will appear is dedicated to the phenomenon of so-called "Secret Publics" and examines their different manifestations from self-organized forms of participation to clandestine forms of community.
