Spyridon Koutroufinis

Spyridon Koutroufinis (* 1967 in Thessaloniki ) is a Greek philosopher .

Life

At the TU Chemnitz (Faculty of Mechanical Engineering) and the Academy of Sciences in Dresden (Department of Materials Research) he studied engineering from September 1985 to February 1990 with additional studies in theoretical physics with a degree in engineering (magna cum laude). At the Humboldt University (Institute for Theoretical Physics) he made additional studies (March 1990 – March 1991) in the physics of self-organization and complexity (non-linear dynamic systems). From April 1991 to February 1994 he obtained a doctorate in philosophy of science (magna cum laude) at the Humboldt University (Institute for Human Ontogenetics and Philosophy of Science). After completing his habilitation in philosophy (March 2002 – July 2009) in Berlin , he is a private lecturer at the Institute for Philosophy at the TU Berlin . Between February 2012 and May 2014 he was visiting professor and visiting scholar at the Institute of Anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley .

His areas of expertise are biophilosophy / philosophy of biology, process philosophy (Whitehead, Bergson, Peirce), classical metaphysics (Aristoteles, Leibniz), theories of self-organization and complexity and information theory (beyond Shannon information).
