Spyros Troianos

Spyros (Spyridon) N. Troianos ( Greek Σπύρος Τρωιάνος ) (born July 18, 1933 in Athens ) is a Greek canon lawyer and legal historian and professor emeritus at the University of Athens .

Life

Spyros Troianos studied law in Athens and Byzantine studies in Munich, received his doctorate in 1964 at the University of Athens, completed his habilitation there in 1970 and was initially a university lecturer, then an associate professor and finally from 1979 until his retirement in 2000, a full professor of orthodox canon law , Greek state church law and Byzantine legal history. From 1994 to 2000 he was dean of the law faculty and member of the Academic Senate of Athens University, and since 1985 he has been a board member and legal advisor to the research commission of the same university. In addition, from 1978 to 1982 he was General Director in the Greek Ministry of Culture, responsible for ecclesiastical affairs in the Greek state, from 1984 to 1998 a member and later President of the founding committee for the Ionian University in Corfu. In 1999 the Faculty of Law at the University of Vienna awarded him the title of Doctor Honoris Causa . He is also a full member of the Commission of the Holy Synod of the Church of Greece on Nomocanonical Questions.

Spyros Troianos is the most important researcher in the field of Byzantine law since Karl Eduard Zachariae von Lingenthal .
