Sreng

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sreng mac Sengainn is a Firbolg warrior in Celtic mythology of Ireland .

mythology

In a more recent story about the landing of the Tuatha de Danaan in Ireland, the Firbolg Sreng was sent to stand against the invaders. He is described as a strong warrior, so that the Tuatha in turn opposed him with Bres (not to be confused with Bress, see below), their strongest warrior. Both met and became friends despite all hostility. After the first battle of Mag Tuired (presumably Cong in County Mayo ), Nuada offered him a peace offer to choose part of Ireland and live there with the Firbolg. Sreng chose Connacht .

It was also Sreng who cut off Nuada's hand in this first battle. In doing so, he enabled Bress to ascend the throne of the Tuatha de Danaan.
