The Yokohama City University ( Japanese 横 浜 市立 大学 , Yokohama-shiritsu daigaku ; English Yokohama City University , short: YCU ) is a public university in Japan . The main campus (Kanazawa Hakkei Campus) is located in Kanazawa-ku , Yokohama in Kanagawa Prefecture .

history

One of the origins of the university was the Yokohama School of Commerce and Law ( 横 浜 商法 学校 , Yokohama shōhō gakkō ), which was founded in 1882 by the merchants' guild . In 1888 it was renamed the Yokohama Commercial School ( 横 浜 商業 学校 , Yokohama shōgyō gakkō , short: Y school ). It became a municipal school in 1917. In 1924 she divided the study time into two parts: a 5-year course (ages: 12-17) and a 2-year specialty course (ages: 17-19). In 1928 the special course for the Yokohama Municipal Business School ( 横 浜 市立 横 浜 商業 専 ​​門 学校 , Yokohama-shiritsu Yokohama shōgyō semmon gakkō , short: Y-technical school ). In 1949 this developed into the Yokohama Municipal University .

Another origin was the Jūzen Hospital founded in 1874 ( 十全 医院 , Jūzen iin ). It became a city hospital in 1891. In 1944, the Yokohama Municipal Medical School ( 横 浜 市立 医学 専 門 学校 , Yokohama-shiritsu igaku semmon gakkō ) was founded at the hospital. In 1947 the college developed into the Yokohama Medical College ( 横 浜 医科大学 , Yokohama ika daigaku ), which in 1952 became the Medical Faculty of the Yokohama Municipal University.
