Steel mill

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Stählemühle is a water-powered grain mill in the Eigeltingen district of Münchhöf, which has been shut down since 1976 and is now run as a distillery for fine fruit brandies .

location

Embedded in the volcanic hills of the Upper Hegau , the Stählemühle is located on the Münchhöfer Mühlenbach, a tributary of the Stockacher Aach . The property is first mentioned around 1753/54 in the books of the Salem Monastery as the "Middle Mill". The current name "Stählemühle" comes from the miller family Anton Stähle, who operated the mill for a century, from 1876 until it was closed in 1976 as a water-powered grain mill for the region's farmers.

history

Since the middle of the 19th century, schnapps has been distilled in the Stählemühle with compensation . The “Brennhäusle”, which was specially built at that time and which also houses the wood-burning oven and the apprentice's journeyman's apartment, still bears witness to the classic ensemble of a mill property.

distillery

The property has been managed by Christiane Schoeller and Christoph Keller since 2004 . Since 2005, distillates from regional fruit varieties as well as international fruit specialties have been produced here under the brand name “Stählemühle” in individually distilled small runs of 10 to a maximum of 200 bottles. The Stählemühle brandies have been awarded various international prizes (Destillata, DLG Best Prize, Golden Stamperl, Prizes of Honor, etc.).

The Edelobstbrennerei Stählemühle also produces an exclusive series of schnapps editions with internationally renowned artists (including Jonathan Meese , Jonathan Monk , Tim Lee) in limited editions.

In November 2017, Christoph Keller announced in an interview with the Stuttgarter Zeitung that he wanted to close the distillery at the end of 2018. Christoph Keller talks about his next steps on his homepage.
