Stéphane Joly (born July 23, 1983 ) is a Swiss long-distance runner who has made a name for himself primarily in cross-country skiing .

Career

Joly has already been the best Swiss runner at several European cross- country championships and world cross-country championships . At the 2009 European Cross Country Championships in Dublin , he finished tenth. In 2007, 2008 and 2010 Joly became Swiss cross-country champion. Stéphane Joly started for Stade Genève .

In 2011 Joly became the first Swiss to win the Murtenlauf since 1998 . The title was stripped from him in 2013 because of doping abuse.

2013 doping ban

In June 2013 Joly was suspended for two years by the Swiss Olympic disciplinary body for doping cases because of inconsistencies in her blood count . The penalty took effect on April 29, 2013. Joly's results between October 14, 2010 and March 16, 2012, including victory at the Murtenlauf 2011, were canceled. This was the first time that a ban was imposed in Switzerland due to inconsistencies in the biological passport (blood passport) . Joly denies using doping agents . The parties as well as the international associations concerned and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) can appeal against the ban at the International Court of Justice (CAS) in Lausanne.
