Stéphane Lièvre (born October 3, 1972 in Paris ) is a former French football player .

Career

The left-back was signed by first division club SM Caen in 1992 and made his professional debut at the age of 19 when he was on the pitch in a 2-0 draw against HSC Montpellier on August 8, 1992 . This was followed by sporadic appearances in the league, while he was not involved in the international competition in which Caen was eliminated in the 1992/93 season after the first round. After two years as a supplementary player, Lièvre was able to fight for a regular place under the new coach Pierre Mankowski , even if he had to accept relegation to the second highest division in 1995. A year later, by winning the second division championship, he not only gained direct promotion, but also the first title of his career; In 1997, however, the club rose again.

In the face of relegation, Lièvre Caen turned his back and instead signed with FC Nantes . With Nantes he played as a regular in European competition, but had to start the relegation battle at the same time and was able to keep the club in the first division before suffering a serious injury in the summer of 1998. It resulted in a year-long hiatus; when the professional returned during the 1999/2000 season, he moved into the 2000 national cup final with the team . In just that, his comrades won the title with a 2-1 win against the fourth division Calais RUFC , while Lièvre himself was not on the field.

In the same year he moved to the league competitor FC Toulouse , with whom he was relegated in 2001; Due to various problems, the club did not have to go to the second, but to the third division. Lièvre remained loyal to Toulouse and was involved as a regular player in two promotions in a row as well as winning the second division championship in 2003. Given his increasing age, however, his role within the team steadily decreased in the following years. Lièvre wore the club's shirt for the last time when he was substituted on March 4, 2006 in a 1-1 draw against AS Nancy ; At the end of the 2005/06 season he announced the end of his career at the age of 33 after 195 first division games with one goal and further appearances in the second and third division. Nevertheless, he stayed with Toulouse, where he got a job as a talent scout.
