The Église Saint-Antoine de Padoue is the Catholic church in the municipality of Saül in the French overseas department of French Guiana . The patron saint of the church is St. Anthony of Padua .

history

Construction work on the church began in 1952 and was completed in 1962. At that time, Saül was the center of gold mining in Guiana. Today, the building is the most important testimony to this era. The village, which was later raised to a parish, organized itself around the church.

The building was carried out in a simple design that is reminiscent of the North American colonial style. At the front of the nave, two bell towers of the same shape were added, which top off with a tent roof .

In 1993 the church was granted Monument historique status.
