The Roman Catholic Church of St-Gorgon is located in Ville-sur-Yron in the Meurthe-et-Moselle department in France . The place of worship is registered in the register of cultural heritage in France.

history

The essentially Romanesque church of St-Gorgon is one of the east tower churches that were built in the vicinity of Gorze Abbey . The abbey had been in the possession of relics of St. Gorgonius of Rome , to whom St-Gorgon was dedicated, since the 8th century . The choir tower rises above the choir bay from the 12th century , which shows an unusual room structure. In the middle, the yoke has a larger, square central room, which is separated from two side rooms by pillars with corner columns and capitals. The rooms open to the west through three arches, the middle one of which is raised. A semicircular apse adjoins it to the east. The nave dates from the 18th century, the choir tower was rebuilt in 1835. The Romanesque portal on the north side with the tympanum is blocked.
