Sosia Jiang (* 1979 in Mongolia ) is a New Zealand- Mongolian poker player .

Personal

Jiang moved from Mongolia to New Zealand with her parents when she was seven. After studying at the Australian National University in Canberra , she completed a law degree at the University of South Wales . She later worked in an investment bank in Hong Kong for a few years . She then returned to New Zealand to work as a teacher . Her brother Honglin Jiang is also a poker player and took second place at the main event of the European Poker Tour in Monte-Carlo at the beginning of May 2018 . She lives in Auckland .

Poker career

Jiang has been participating in prestigious live tournaments since 2012.

Jiang won the high roller event of the PokerStars Championship in Macau in mid-April 2017 . For this she prevailed against 179 other players, especially at the final table against Dan Smith and Nick Petrangelo , and received a prize of 3.87 million Hong Kong dollars , at this point the equivalent of almost 500,000 US dollars . This made Jiang the first ever high roller winner in a live tournament series hosted by PokerStars . In early August 2018, Jiang won the high roller of the Sydney Championships and secured the grand prize of 266,000 Australian dollars . In January 2019, she reached the fourth day of the tournament at the PokerStars Players Championship of the PokerStars Caribbean Adventures in the Bahamas , where she was eliminated in 28th place, worth $ 105,000. A few days later, she finished second at a one-day high roller event in the same position and received around 175,000 US dollars. In June 2019 , Jiang was successful for the first time at the World Series of Poker in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and achieved u. a. the money ranks in the main event . At the beginning of August 2019, she finished 14th in the main event of the Triton Super High Roller Series in London and secured the equivalent of almost 250,000 US dollars.

Overall, Jiang has earned almost 1.5 million US dollars with poker in live tournaments, making it the second most successful New Zealand poker player after Lee Nelson according to the Hendon Mob Poker Database .
