St-Isidore

St-Isidore is a Roman Catholic branch church in Elange , a district of Thionville in the Moselle department in France . The church is inscribed on the register of cultural heritage in France.

history

In 1726, the residents of Elange , who had previously been parishioners at St-Jean-Baptiste in Volkrange , obtained episcopal permission to build a local chapel, which was consecrated to Saint Isidore the following year. It is possible that the chapel was preceded by an older building, as there is a Gothic tracery window dated to around 1500 in each of the two nave walls . The windows may also come from an unknown building and were used here a second time. In 1747 the choir tower was built. In this way, the tradition of village churches with eastern towers, which was widespread in Lorraine, was followed. In 1804 St-Isidore became a branch of St-Pierre in Veymerange .
