St. Catherine Church in Kazan

The St. Catherine Church in Kazan in the Republic of Tatarstan in Russia is a monument of the Protestant sacred architecture of the 19th century.

history

It was built in 1870 with funds from the German Association in Kazan according to a plan by LK Hrschonowitsch. The church was built in the tradition of eclecticism and contains elements of Gothic . In 1927 the church was closed. For a long time the Mensinsky Club was located here.

In 1996 part of the church was given to the German State Karl Fuchs Association . The small prayer room is now used appropriately by the Evangelical Lutheran Church. The church is gradually being restored.

Today it houses the German House of Tatarstan , which was founded in 2000 (Director since 2007 Victor Dietz), the center of Russian Germans and a center for German language and culture and also the youth club pearl necklace .

A Luther rose has adorned the facade of St. Catherine Church since September 2011. It was on the occasion of the 240th anniversary of the Evangelical Lutheran. St. Catherine parish attached to the gable.
