history

Emergence

The reason for the new church was that the Braunschweig St. Markus parish had only one parish hall available for parish activities until 1997.

architecture

The church hymn “ God is present ” by Gerhard Tersteegen was the inspiration for the construction of the church . This basic theological idea has been implemented architecturally by city church building officer Norbert Koch. “Everything is arranged from the middle and towards the middle. The church space becomes a place for the congregation to meet with one another and with God. It can literally come to one another. The architecture and furnishings take into account that God is not far from us, but among us. Christ promised to be among us when he said: 'Where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am among them' (Matthew 18:20). The center of the room thus becomes a symbol for our center, which gathers us together across all differences. Wherever God approaches us, where we come closer to him, where we come close to one another, where we come to the center, there is condensed what holds us together deeply ”(Hans-Jürgen Kopkow).

Miracle of Braunschweig

In February 2012, the St. Markus Congregation, like many other non-profit organizations in Braunschweig, received an anonymous donation of 10,000 euros. The church council has decided to use the money to buy a new heating burner and to support people in need.
