Antoine Duquesne

Antoine Duquesne (born February 3, 1941 in Ixelles / Elsene , † November 4, 2010 ) was a Belgian politician of the Mouvement Réformateur (MR).

Life

From 1960 to 1965 Duquesne studied law at the University of Liège and graduated with honors. He then worked until 1975 as a lawyer in the Liège Bar Association and from 1975 to 1977 as Deputy Secretary General of the National Committee for Education and Training in Crafts and Commercial Professions. From 1977 to 1982 he was the administrative director of the national committee for the coordination and coordination of further and further training of the middle class and of the Francophone institute for further and further education of the middle class and then held the post of director of the Caisse Nationale de Crédit Professionnel until 1988 . From 1988 he worked as a lawyer in Marche-en-Famenne .

Duquesne was from 1990 to 1992 chairman of the party "Parti du rassemblement des libéraux" (PRL) and from 1994 to 2004 association chairman of the party "Mouvement Réformateur" in the province of Luxembourg. From 2003 to 2004 he also chaired the Mouvement Réformateur.

From 1989 to 2003 Duquesne was a member of the Manhay parish council and from 1995 to 1999 mayor of the parish. He was also active in the Walloon Regional Council and the Council of the French Community from 1991 to 1995.

Duquesne was several times a senator in the Belgian Senate (1988 to 1991 and 2003 to 2004). From 1987 to 1988 he was Minister of Education and from 1999 to 2003 Minister of the Interior of Belgium. From July 20, 2004, Duquesne was a member of the European Parliament .

Duquesne has received several awards for his services. He was an officer, commander and grand officer of the Order of Leopold as well as a grand officer of the Order of Orange-Nassau . In 1998 he was appointed Minister of State.

On the night of March 2, 2006, Duquesne suffered a cerebral infarction that partially paralyzed him and took away his ability to speak. While this meant his retirement from all political offices, Duquesne was still officially a member of the European Parliament until 2009 because he was physically unable to provide the signature required to step down. He died on November 4, 2010 as a result of his illness.
