Jules de Burlet
Jules Philippe Marie de Burlet (born April 10, 1844 in Ixelles / Elsene , † March 1, 1897 in Nivelles ) was a Belgian Catholic politician and Prime Minister.
Studies and professional activities
After studying law and the promotion for Doctor iuris , he was a lawyer active in Nivelles.
Political career
De Burlet began his political career in 1872 when he was elected mayor of Nivelles. He held this office until 1891.
From 1884 to 1888 and from 1892 to 1894 he was a member of the Chamber of Deputies, where he represented the interests of the Katholieke Partij of the Nivelles arrondissement . He was then Senator of the Province of Brabant until 1896 .
In 1891 he was appointed Minister of the Interior by Prime Minister Auguste Beernaert . He initially retained this office when he was appointed Prime Minister's successor to Beernaert on March 26, 1894. In 1895 he handed over the office of interior minister to Frans Schollaert and instead took over the office of foreign minister until the end of his reign on February 25, 1896.
In 1896 he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State for his services. From 1896 to 1897 he was ambassador to Portugal .
