Luc Van den Bossche

Luc Van den Bossche (born September 16, 1947 in Aalst ) is a Belgian politician of the Socialist Partij Anders (sp.a).

Life

Van den Bossche completed his law studies at the University of Ghent in 1970 and then worked as a lawyer in the Ghent Bar Association . From 1989 to 1992 he was the Flemish Minister of the Interior and Public Service and from 1995 to 1998 he was also Deputy Prime Minister. In 1998 he replaced Louis Tobback in the office of interior minister at the federal level when he had to resign after the scandal surrounding the death of the Nigerian asylum seeker Semira Adamu . In 1999 Van den Bossche took over the post of Minister for Public Health for a short time when his party colleague Marcel Colla lost his post due to the dioxin scandal. After the elections of the same year, he was appointed Minister of Public Service.

In 2003 Van den Bossche withdrew from politics and on May 27, 2003 took over the chairmanship of the Associatie Universiteit Gent (AUGent) and on September 1, 2003 the chairmanship of the Brussels International Airport Company (BIAC).

From the meanwhile divorced marriage with Lieve Bracke (* 1947) Van den Bossche has a daughter, Freya Van den Bossche , who was also active as a budget minister, minister for consumer protection and deputy prime minister in the government of Guy Verhofstadt as a politician for the sp.a. ; since 2009 she has been Minister for Energy, Housing, Urban Policy and the Social Economy in the Flemish government under Kris Peeters .
