Charles R. Tittle

Charles R. Tittle (born March 26, 1939 ) is an American sociologist and criminologist who became internationally known for his Control Balance Theory .

Scientific career

Tittle initially studied history and earned a BA from Quachita Baptist College in Arkadelphia, Arkansas in 1961 . In 1963 he received his MA in sociology at the University of Texas at Austin , where he also received his doctorate in sociology ( Ph.D. ) in 1965 . After working and studying at various North American universities, he became Professor of Sociology at Florida Atlantic University in 1974 and Professor of Sociology at Washington State University in 1988 . Since 2000 he has been a (now emeritus ) professor of sociology at North Carolina State University . His research interests are in the areas of: sociology of crime and deviance ; Sociological theory and urban sociology . In 1995 he presented his widely acclaimed theory of control balance .
