Charles du Bus de Warnaffe

Charles Paul Marie Léon Vicomte du Bus de Warnaffe (born September 16, 1894 in Brussels , † October 23, 1965 ibid) was a Belgian politician of the Catholic Party .

Life

Du Bus studied law at the Catholic University of Leuven , where he also obtained the title of Doctor juris , and then went to Princeton University to study politics and history .

From 1921 Du Bus worked as a lawyer in Brussels and from 1928 to 1932 he worked in the Brussels city administration. He was then a lay judge until 1934 . In 1934 he was elected to the Belgian Chamber of Deputies as a member of the Catholic Party (and later the Christelijke Volkspartij ) , of which he was a member until 1961.

In 1934 Du Bus was appointed Minister of Transport and Post in the Theunis II government and was Minister of the Interior under Paul van Zeeland from 1935 to 1936 and Minister of Justice in the Janson I government from 1937 to 1938 . In 1944/45 he again took over the management of the Ministry of Justice and served as Minister of Justice for the third time from 1952 to 1954, replacing the sick Léonce Lagae .

Du Bus was actively involved in the school system in Belgium. From 1932 he was General Secretary of the National Committee for Free Education and, during the school struggle in the 1950s, chairman of the National Committee for Freedom and Democracy . He has also published numerous books on the subject.

In 1963 Du Bus was given the honorary title of Minister of State.
