Victor Tesch

Victor Jean-Baptiste Tesch (born March 10, 1812 in Messancy ; † June 16, 1892 ibid) was a Luxembourg - Belgian politician, publisher and director of the Burbacher Hütte .

Life

Victor Tesch was born in 1812 as the son of the notary Jean-Frédéric Tesch (1774–1844) and his wife Marie-Cécile Nothomb (1780–1869). He studied law in Liège and obtained his doctorate in 1832. jur. From 1834 he worked as a lawyer. He began his political engagement as a member of the Arlon City Council for the Belgian Liberal Party. Tesch campaigned against the separation of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg from the Belgian province of the same name. In 1839 he became a Belgian citizen. From 1848 to 1892 he was a member of the Belgian parliament for the constituency of Arlon. During his time as a member of parliament, he campaigned for the beautification of Brussels and the building of the Royal Church of Laeken. He was also a permanent member of the Province of Luxembourg. From 1850 to 1852 and from 1857 to 1865 Tesch was Minister of Justice of Belgium. In 1865 Tesch was appointed Minister of State.

In 1866 Victor Tesch built a small country palace in his hometown of Messancy. The castle served as the family residence until the 1920s.

On June 22, 1856, Tesch founded the Saarbrücker Eisenhüttengesellschaft ("Société en participation des Forges de Sarrebruck") with Nikolaus Berger, Emmanuel Servais and Charles Metz and began building a blast furnace and a puddling plant with 20 puddling and six welding furnaces in Burbach. On September 16, 1856 he became president of the board of directors of the iron and steel company. Tesch was also the publisher of the liberal newspaper “Echo du Luxembourg”.

Tesch was married to his cousin Marie Caroline Hélène Amélie Nothomb (1816–1869). The couple had seven children.
