Paul Tschoffen

Paul Marie Joseph Raymond Tschoffen (born May 8, 1878 in Dinant , Namur Province , Belgium , † July 11, 1961 in Liège , Liège Province , Belgium) was a Belgian politician of the Catholic Party .

biography

After attending school, he studied law and worked as a lawyer after gaining a doctorate in law .

In 1919 he was elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies as a candidate for the Catholic Party and was a member of it until 1922. Between 1924 and 1936 he was co-opted as a member of the Senate . During this time he was also political director of the Revue Belge .

In 1924 he was appointed to a government office for the first time by Prime Minister Georges Theunis as Minister for Labor, Industry and Social Welfare and remained in this position until 1925. He was then Minister for Railways, Post and Telegraphy before he was Minister of Justice in Prosper Poullet's cabinet from June to December 1925 .

In 1929, in the government of Prime Minister Henri Jaspar , he was Minister for the Colonies for a short time for the first time . Between October 1932 and November 1934 he took over the post of Colonial Minister again in the second cabinet headed by Charles de Broqueville .

On September 3, 1945, he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State for his political services .
