Victor Maistriau

Victor Eugène Ange Jules Maistriau (born October 5, 1870 in Maurage , Hainaut , Belgium , † January 21, 1961 in Mons , Hainaut, Belgium) was a Belgian liberal politician .

biography

The son of a mayor of Maurage studied after school law at the University of Ghent and put there his promotion to Doctor of Law from.

His political career began in 1903 when he was elected a member of the Mons parish council , to which he was a member for 50 years until 1953. After working as Assistant Secretary for Public Instruction 1912-1926, he became in 1926 the mayor of Mons, also remained in this position until the 1953rd

In 1933 he was also elected a member of the Chamber of Deputies , where he represented the interests of the Arrondissement of Mons until 1946 . In 1934 he was Minister for Post, Telephone and Telegraphy (PTT) for some time.

Prime Minister Paul van Zeeland also appointed him on July 15, 1937 as Minister of Justice in his cabinet, to which he was a member until the end of Zeeland's term of office on November 24, 1937.

For his political merits, he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State , along with several other politicians, on September 3, 1945 .
