history

In 1733 the hall was inaugurated as the Church of the Marian Congregation in the University of Wroclaw. It has been used sacred since then. In 1802 it was converted into a hall of the university library. Wroclaw has been one of the most important concert halls since 1815, with many artists such as Niccoló Paganini , Clara Wieck , Anton Rubinstein , Franz Liszt , Hector Berlioz and Johannes Brahms performing. In 1902 an organ by Hans Poelzig was installed.

In 1945 the hall was badly damaged after a bomb attack. After the makeshift restoration, the hall was used for military training. From 1985 to 1993 it was restored to its original baroque form. In 1997 it was solemnly rededicated.

From 2013 to 2014 the baroque ceiling paintings were reconstructed by Christoph Wetzel .
