Norbert Conrads

Norbert Conrads (born September 21, 1938 in Breslau , Lower Silesia Province ) is a German historian and Germanist .

Life

From 1960, Norbert Conrads studied history and German at the universities of Vienna and Cologne , where he received his doctorate in 1968. After completing his habilitation in 1978 at the University of Saarbrücken , he was Professor of Early Modern History at the University of Stuttgart from 1981 to 2003 and head of the “Silesian History” project area: from 1990 to 1991 he was Dean of the Faculty of History, Social and Economic Sciences. He is the author of numerous studies on educational and social history and the history of Silesia and a member of the Historical Commission for Silesia .

He has been honored several times for his scientific achievements: in 1998 he received the Georg Dehio Prize , in 2000 the Special Prize of the Silesian Culture Prize of Lower Saxony and in 2004 the Gold Medal of the Polish University of Wroclaw , which he received in 2011 in recognition of his services to the Research into modern history , the history of Silesia and the long-term scientific cooperation with the University of Wroclaw awarded the title of Doctor honoris causa . In 2017 he received the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
