Victor Philippe Marie Jacobs (born January 18, 1838 in Antwerp , † December 20, 1891 in Saint-Gilles / Sint-Gillis ) was a Belgian politician .

He belonged to the Meeting Party and later to the Catholic Party and was a member of the Chamber of Deputies . Jacobs was Minister of Public Works in 1870, Minister of Finance between 1870 and 1871, and Minister of the Interior in 1884 and Minister of Public Education. In 1888 he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State .

Victor Philippe Marie Jacobs was a son of the lawyer and politician Pierre Louis Martin Jacobs and his wife Marie Anne van Merlen, a descendant of Jacobs van Merlen . After attending school, he completed a law degree at the Free University of Brussels , which he completed in 1860 as a doctor of law . He then settled as a lawyer in his native Antwerp and worked as such until 1876. On June 9, 1863, he became a member of the Chamber of Deputies for the meeting party for the first time and later represented the interests of the Antwerp district for the Catholic Party until his death on December 20, 1891 .

On July 2, 1870, Jacobs was appointed to the d'Anethan government, where he initially served as Minister of Public Works until August 3, 1870, and then as Minister of Finance between August 3, 1870 and December 7, 1871. He was a member of the Finance Committee between 1873 and 1876, Vice-President of the Chamber of Deputies from 1877 to 1878 and a member of the Finance Committee again between 1879 and 1880. At the same time he worked as a lawyer in Brussels between 1877 and his death in 1891 .

In the Malou II government, he held the offices of Minister of the Interior and Minister of Public Education between June 16 and October 26, 1884. In 1885 he was a delegate at the Congo Conference in Berlin . After leaving the government, he was again a member of the finance committee of the Chamber of Deputies from 1885 to 1889 and, in 1886, a member of the commission to investigate the work situation in industry. On May 20, 1888, he was awarded the honorary title of Minister of State for his services .
