Tuti Bridge

The Tuti Bridge is a steel composite - suspension bridge to traffic in Sudan .

It connects Khartoum via the Blue Nile with the eponymous Tuti island . The driveway on the Khartoum side is near the Friendship Hall .

The bridge was commissioned by the al-Chartum State Department of Public Works . The company Dorman Long Technology took on the planning and design . The company A&A Engineering and Construction was commissioned to carry out the work, and Bauer Spezialtiefbau GmbH was commissioned to build the foundations . Construction work began in 2004.

The bridge was opened to traffic in March 2009. The cost was $ 14.2 million.

The span of the bridge is 210 meters and is carried by two steel cables, each of which is connected to the roadway with 19 strands with a diameter of 70 mm. The carrier pylons of the two main ropes are located on the mainland and the island, as construction in the river was considered too difficult due to the strong seasonal currents.

In mid-2012, construction began on a bridge from Tuti to Bahri , which will be the fourth continuous road link between Khartoum and Bahri as an extension of the Tuti Bridge.
